Waubonsee Community College's Brooke Heiman was named the Region 4 Division II District 'A' Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season. The sophomore was chosen the region's top player for the week of February 12 through 18 after scoring 59 points and grabbing 23 rebounds in the Chiefs' two games last week. The 5'9" guard booked a collegiate career high of 37 points in Waubonsee's 100-54 thrashing of Prairie State College on Tuesday evening. Near the end of the second quarter Heiman made a pair of free throws to give her 1,000 points in her Waubonsee career, joining Julianna Wadsworth (2014-2016) as the only Chiefs' women's basketball players to reach that plateau. The Indian Creek High School graduate also snagged 15 rebounds to compile her 11th double-double of the season. After the Chiefs' Thursday evening contest at Morton was postponed, Heiman tallied 22 points and grabbed eight boards in Waubonsee's 83-58 victory over Carl Sandburg College on Saturday afternoon.
On the season the Compton, Illinois native is averaging 21.1 points-per-game which places her ninth nationally among all NJCAA Division II women's basketball players. Heiman is shooting 87.2 percent from the foul line to rank sixth nationally in that category, and her 130 made free throws places her second in the nation. In addition, she is averaging 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and nearly two steals per contest. Heiman was previously tabbed the Region 4 Player of the Week in early November and the third week of January.
