Chiefs top ECC for first win

(Aurora, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's women's tennis team secured its first win of the 2025 season by topping Elgin Community College 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Washington Park tennis complex on the west side of Aurora. The Chiefs, under the direction of Jean Maren, won two of the four matches played. Waubonsee also received three forfeit wins at number four and five singles, and number two doubles to get the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) victory. The Chiefs' Abby Grams got things rolling for the home team as she downed the Spartans' Trinity Teeson 6-3 and 6-4 in their number one singles match. Kylie Weyer rallied to beat Ayana Imanbaeva 5-7, 6-4 and 10-5 in the third set at number two singles. Grams and Weyer then teamed up at number one doubles, but lost an 8-5 decision to the tandem of Neesom and Imanbaeva. The Chiefs' Courtney Farmer fell 1-6, 1-6 to Catarina Sterken at number three singles. Carly Keogh and Bayley Kraabel each were awards forfeit wins in singles play, and at number two doubles. Waubonsee is set to host Moraine Valley Community College in another ISCC match this Thursday, September 11, beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the Washington Park courts.
