Waubonsee Community College's softball team had six players recognized by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) and the NJCAA's Region IV Committee for their performances this past spring on the diamond. Chiefs' second baseman Alyssa Eby and outfielder Lexi McCauley were each named to the All-ISCC First Team, with shortstop Gracyn Gabriel and third baseman Megan White selected All-ISCC Second Team, and first baseman Grace Klingbeil and outfielder Jessica Wilson both being picked All-ISCC Honorable Mention. Gabriel was also chosen to the All-Region First Team, while Eby and McCauley were both tabbed to the All-Region Second Team.
Eby, a sophomore from St. Charles North High School, finished her Chiefs' career with five program records. The right-handed hitter set Waubonsee career records for at bats (366), hits (154), doubles (38), multi-hit games (51), and established a single season mark for multi-hit games (30). Eby also finished tied for most hits in a season (84), is second in career runs scored (119) and doubles in a season (20), and third in career total bases (210). The Chiefs' lead-off hitter batted .412 this past Spring with 55 runs scored, smacking 18 doubles and stealing 17 bases out of 19 attempts. As a freshman Eby batted .449 and finished seventh nationally with 84 hits on her way to being named an NJCAA Division II Third Team All-American. She also struck out only one time that season in 195 plate appearances, finishing the season on a 40-game strikeout-less streak.
A sophomore from Oswego East High School, McCauley batted .377 on the season with a team-leading eight home runs, 47 runs batted in and 95 total bases. The left-handed hitter also ripped 15 doubles and a pair of triples en route to compiling a .688 slugging percentage. Gabriel, a sophomore from Sycamore High School, led the Chiefs with a .455 batting average and a .715 slugging percentage. She smacked 11 doubles, six triples, three homers, drove in 37 runs and scored 47 times. Gabriel also finished seventh nationally among all NJCAA Division II players with 34 walks on the way to registering a .566 on-base percentage, and was named to the Region IV All-Tournament team.
A Geneva High School alumnus, White finished with a .364 batting average, scoring 40 runs and driving in 31 on the season primarily from the number two spot in the Chiefs' batting order. The sophomore drilled 10 doubles, a triple, five home runs and also stole six bases. Klingbeil, a freshman Oswego East High School, batted .403 with 40 runs knocked in, finishing with 11 doubles and four home runs. In the field she recorded a .980 fielding percentage, making just three errors in 150 chances. A sophomore from St. Charles North High School, Wilson batted .310 with 21 runs scored and six stole bases before an injury limited her to just 26 games played.
Waubonsee finished the season 20-24 overall, going 5-7 in ISCC play to finish fifth in the league standings. Waubonsee reached the 'final four' of the double-elimination Region IV Division II District B Tournament before suffering losses to Kankakee Community College and Highland Community College.
