(Sugar Grove, IL.)- The Waubonsee Community College's Men's Tennis team opened their 2026 season with a pair of victories the end of March. The Chiefs downed Milwaukee Area (WI.) Technical College 5-2 on March 21 at the Vaughan Athletic Center. Coach Bruce Fraser's crew then registered a 6-3 win over Sauk Valley Community College on March 30 in their first match at Waubonsee newly renovated Tennis and Pickleball Complex on the Sugar Grove campus.
In the season opener against the Stormers, Waubonsee benefited from three forfeit wins to secure the win. The Chiefs' Matt Manugas defeated Milwaukee Tech's Braxton Brusky at number one singles 6-4, 6-1. Manugas and Kameron Falk later teamed up at number one doubles and scored an 8-4 win over Brusky and his teammate Peyton Kuzminski. Waubonsee received wins by forfeit at number four and five singles, along with number two doubles.
The Chiefs topped Sauk Valley by winning six of the seven matches that were played. Manugas won handily 6-1, 6-0 over Iker Zaragoza at number one singles. Falk downed Derek Miller 6-4, 6-1 at number two singles. Waubonsee's Johnathan Crouch edged Bowen Mallhi 7-6 with three tie breakers in the first set before taking the second set 6-0. Henry Pittenger then won his number four singles match in three sets 7-5, 4-6 and 10-5 over Sawyer Zuitoff. Waubonsee tallied identical 8-5 wins at number one and number two doubles as the pairing of Manugas and Falk beat Miller and Mallhi, and the duo of Crouch and Pittenger topped Zaragoza and Zuitoff. Waubonsee's Felipe Cardenas fell 6-0, 6-3 to Nathaniel Burger at number five singles. The Chiefs forfeited the number six singles match and the number three doubles match.
Waubonsee has since dropped three straight matches, including a pair of Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference battles. McHenry County College edged the Chiefs 4-2 on March 31 at the Vaughan Center in Aurora. The College of DuPage also topped Waubonsee 7-2 on April 1 at the Vaughan Center before the Chiefs played a fourth straight day and lost 9-0 to Moraine Valley Community College at the Forest Park Tennis and Health Club in south suburban Forest Park.
