Chiefs’ Soccer receives post-season honors

Four members of Waubonsee Community College's Men's Soccer team were recognized for their outstanding play during the Chiefs' 2021 Fall season. The Chiefs' Axel Sanchez was named to the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) First Team, while teammate Juan Noyola was each chosen All-ISCC Second Team, while Lincoln Lillwitz and Edgar Barrientos were selected ISCC Honorable Mention. In addition, Sanchez and selected to the All-Region IV Team as well.

Sanchez, a sophomore midfielder from Aurora West High School, booked six goals and tied Giovanni Duenas for the team lead in saves with eight. The two-time All-ISCC First Team selection was the Chiefs' on-field leader the last two seasons. A freshman midfielder from Yorkville, Noyola converted all four of his penalty kick attempts on the way to tallying seven goals and recording two assists. Lillwitz, a speedy sophomore forward from Aurora Central Catholic High School, led Waubonsee with eight goals and was credited with five assists. A native of Montgomery, Barrientos helped key a Chiefs' defense that registered five shutout victories. The freshman defender even tallied two goals and an assist on the season.

Waubonsee finished fifth in the ISCC with a 3-3-1 record and went 8-8-1 overall during the Fall season. The Chiefs did not qualify for the four-team Region IV Division II Tournament, ranking sixth in the final Region standings.
