A ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open Waubonsee Community College's new Tennis and Pickleball courts will be held this coming Saturday, November 8. The brand-new complex features six lighted tennis courts, six Pickleball courts, seating areas for spectators, public bathrooms and additional storage space for the Chiefs' tennis teams. The dedication is being held in conjunction with the college's third annual Bike the Burbs outing, with festivities beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the north side of the Sugar Grove campus. While supplies last, complimentary coffee (Dapper Brew Coffee) and hot chocolate will be served.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, with college dignitaries, Athletic Department staff and Waubonsee tennis team players, will commence at 10:15 a.m. Tennis tips and instruction, along with Pickleball 101, will be held between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Macey Brooks, former NFL player turned Pickleball ambassador and instructor will be on hand to teach the intricacies of the game. Brooks has introduced the sport to hundreds of new players through clinics, community events, and his work with the Oswegoland Senior and Community Center, Oswego Park District, RUSH Copley Healthplex, and Pickler Pickleball Club in Wheaton. From 11:30 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. the courts will be available for open play.
Also, at 1:00 p.m. Waubonsee's women's basketball team takes on Harper College in Erickson Hall Gymnasium directly across the north parking lot from the new tennis complex. The Chiefs' men's basketball team is set to square off against the Hawks in their season opener immediately afterwards at approximately 3:00 p.m. that afternoon as well.
