(Lake Villa, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's Women's Tennis squad began Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play with a 7-2 victory over the College of Lake County. The Chiefs (2-1, 1-0) won four of the six singles matches, and then swept all three doubles matches to secure the road win against the Lancers. Playing at the Lakes Community High School courts on Thursday afternoon, coach Douglas Passett got contributions from his entire roster. Elizabeth Egerman pulled out a hard fought three-set win at number two singles, rallying to record a 4-6, 6-4 and 10-8 triumph over the Lancers' Haley Quick. Twin sisters Jazmine Hernandez and Angelina Hernandez each won their matches at number four and number five singles, respectively. Jazmine outlasted Anje Rodriguez 7-5, 2-6 and 10-3, while Angelina downed Dianna Sangabriel 6-3, 6-1. Lauren Silva then bested Kate Jackson at number six singles 6-0, 6-4 to help give the Chiefs the upper hand. In doubles play Egerman teamed up with Hailey Wilcox, who bounced back from a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Carly Burgeson at number one singles, to down the tandem of Burgeson and Quick in an epic match. Wilcox and Egerman prevailed 7-6, pulling out an 8-6 tie-breaker in the first set. They followed that up with another 7-6 win, securing the match with a 7-3 tie-breaker victory. The Hernandez twins had the Lancers seeing double as they captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at number two doubles over the duo of Rodriguez and Nicole Miciat. Silva and Taylor Wyeth, who earlier had dropped a 6-3, 7-5 match at number three singles to Miciat, dominated their number three doubles match to finish off Waubonsee's first ISCC win. Silva and Wyeth cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Lancers' Kaylie Smith and Nicole Tomas. Waubonsee is in action again next Tuesday, September 29, when they travel to Moriane Valley Community College for their second ISCC match of the season.
