(Fort Dodge, IA) - Three runners represented Waubonsee Community College at the 2020 NJCAA Division II National Meet on Saturday. After the full-scholarship NJCAA Division I and non-scholarship Division III women's and men's races, the first ever Division II race was held. Freshman Tony LoPresti paced the Chiefs' trio of competitors, finishing 73rd out of 145 participants in the men's 8K race. LoPresti, who also played golf for Waubonsee this fall, covered the course laid out at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa in a time of 28:56, posting a 5:49 average per mile. The Chiefs' Dalton Klingensmith placed 92nd overall turning in a time of 29:28. Rounding out Waubonsee's threesome was sophomore Daphne Kolody who finished 91st in the women's 5K race, posting a time of 22:50.
North Iowa Area College (NIAC) won the Men's National Championship with a team score of 57, holding off Allen (IA) College which tallied 68 points. NIAC's Melvin Kipkemboi earned the individual title turning in a time of 24:58, out sprinting Cowley (KS) College's Adrian Diaz-Lopez to the finish line by three seconds. Cowley (KS) College captured the women's team title by edging Heartland (IL) College by just three points, 68-71. Cowley placed three runners in the top-10 to offset Heartland's pack of competitors, whom all finished within 0:37 of each other. Cowley's Lubna Suied garnered the individual championship covering the course in a time of 18:30, holding off NIAC's Sarah Bertry who crossed the finish line less than three seconds later.
