(Secaucus, NJ.) - Former Waubonsee Community College baseball player Jared Liebelt was selected in the 20th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Aurora West High School graduate, currently in his senior season at Mississippi State University, was the 602nd player chosen overall at the MLB Network's television studio. A 6'0" 175-pound right-handed pitcher, Liebelt has a 2.74 earned-run-average (ERA) with five saves and two wins in 30 relief appearances this spring for the Bulldogs. He has struck out 32, walked just nine and allowed 48 hits over 49 and a third innings pitched.
In two years at Waubonsee Liebelt won 15 games while compiling a 2.56 ERA with 189 strikeouts over 137 and a third innings pitched. A two-time All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and All-Region IV selection, Liebelt also was twice tabbed the NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week, was selected the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Region IV Tournament and helped lead the Chiefs to a berth in the 2016 NJCAA Division III World Series.
Liebelt and Mississippi State (49-13) are set to host Stanford University (45-12) in one of eight NCAA Division I Super Regionals beginning this Saturday, June 8 in Starkville, Mississippi. The winner of the best-two-out-of-three series will advance to the eight-team, double-elimination 2019 NCAA Division I World Series in Omaha, Nebraska starting on June 15.
